ACT Prep in Ashburn, VA
The ACT moved to a shorter, enhanced format in 2025. Here's what changed, and how we help students prepare with confidence.
What changed on the ACT
Shorter test
The core test (English, Math and Reading) takes about 2 hours and 5 minutes, down from almost 3 hours.
Science is optional
The composite score (1–36) now comes from English, Math and Reading. Science is reported separately if taken.
Online or paper
Students can take the ACT online at a test center or on paper, whichever suits them best.
The ACT at a glance
Every section is shorter than before, with more time per question in most sections. Colleges accept the ACT and the SAT equally, so students can choose the test that fits them best.
| Section | Time | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| English | 35 min | 50 questions |
| Math | 50 min | 45 questions |
| Reading | 40 min | 36 questions |
| Science (optional) | 40 min | 40 questions |
| Writing (optional) | 40 min | 1 essay |
